COALTAR AC 976 • Solvent-based Epoxy Coal Tar Topcoat Paint

General Details

Two-component, solvent-based epoxy resin-based, coal tar modified topcoat paint.

Product Description:

This is a two-component, solvent-based, epoxy resin-based, coal tar modified high-performance topcoat paint. It is formulated to offer superior resistance to abrasion, corrosion, saltwater, subsurface moisture, and aggressive chemicals.

Thanks to its coal tar modification, it provides long-lasting, heavy-duty protection, especially for structural elements embedded in water and soil. Its high film thickness makes it resistant to mechanical impacts and abrasion.

It can be applied alone or as a topcoat over epoxy primers and intermediate coats.

Areas of application:

  • Underground steel pipes
  • Underground and aboveground water lines
  • Concrete infrastructure elements
  • Structures exposed to seawater and salt water
  • Wastewater and industrial plant infrastructures
  • Heavy-duty corrosion protection systems

Key Features:

  • Coal tar modified high protection
  • Resistant to salt water and chemicals
  • Suitable for underground applications

SURFACE PREPARATION

Surface preparation is crucial for achieving the expected performance of epoxy paint. Surfaces to be primed must be cleaned of all rust, mill scale, dirt, dust, oil, and grease. For surface cleaning, sandblasting to a minimum Sa 2 ½ degree according to the Swedish standard SIS 05 59 00 is particularly recommended. Abrasives that provide a surface roughness of Medium G 30-85 microns according to ISO 8503-2 should be used.

MIXING PREPARATION

Components A and B should be mixed using a low-speed mixer for at least 3-4 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained, paying attention to the mixing ratios. The mixture is ready for application after mixing.

PAINTING SYSTEM

Applied with a brush, roller, or airless spray gun. For airless spray gun application, BRV Epoxy Thinner should be used for thinning. AC 976 Epoxy Coal Tar should be prepared with an application viscosity of 18-20“/DIN CUP4/20°C for spray applications and 28-40“/DIN CUP4/20°C for brush and roller applications. To increase corrosion resistance, it is recommended to apply it leaving a dry film of at least 150-200 microns on the surface.

APPLICATION CONDITIONS

* Avoid application below 10°C and in very humid environments.
